Privacy Policy

StarYaar ("we", "us") operates this app. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we need it, and how to get rid of it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal padding.

What we collect

• Birth details: your date, time and place of birth. This is the entire basis of your reading and your matches. It is the most sensitive thing we hold, and it is never shown to another user.
• Your name and gender: your first name is shown to matches; gender decides who you are matched with.
• Approximate location: the city you tell us you live in, stored at reduced precision, used only to find matches near you. We do not track your device location.
• Phone number: only if you choose to verify one. It exists so a real person is behind every conversation, and so you can get your account back on a new phone.
• Messages: the chats you send to your matches.
• Payment status: whether a subscription is active, and its Razorpay identifier. We never see or store your card, UPI or bank details. Those go directly to Razorpay.
• Device token: only if you turn notifications on.
• App activity: which screens you open and where you drop off, with a device identifier, used only to improve the app. It is never linked to your birth details or messages, and never used for advertising.

What other users can see

Only four things: your first name, your zodiac avatar, your compatibility score with them, and roughly how far away you are. Your birth details, your exact location, your phone number and your email are never visible to another user.

Why we are allowed to hold it

You give us birth details so we can compute your reading and find your matches, that is the service you asked for. Everything else is either necessary to run the app (payment status, verification) or optional and switched on by you (notifications).

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising. We share only with the companies that make the app work:

• Supabase: database and authentication.
• Google Cloud: the service that computes your chart.
• Razorpay: payments. They handle card details, not us.
• MSG91: sends your verification SMS.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging: delivers notifications.
• Amplitude: product analytics, so we can see how the app is used and improve it. Receives app-activity data only, never your birth details or messages.

How we use your phone number

Your number signs you in, and it is how we reach you on WhatsApp and by SMS about your readings, your matches and your messages. We also use it occasionally to tell you about new features or offers.

You can opt out of the promotional messages at any time by replying STOP to any WhatsApp message from us, or by writing to developer@staryaar.co.in. Opting out does not close your account and does not stop the messages that are part of the service itself, such as a login code or a notice that someone has replied to you.

Your number is never sold, and it is never handed to anyone else to message you on their own behalf. It reaches WhatsApp only through the provider that delivers the message for us.

How long we keep it

Until you delete your account. When you do, your profile, reading, matches and chats stop being visible to anyone immediately, and any subscription is cancelled so you are never charged again. The data is permanently erased after 30 days, a window that exists purely so you can change your mind.

Deleting your account

In the app: Settings → Delete account. It takes one tap and a confirmation. You do not have to email anyone. If you would rather we did it for you, write to developer@staryaar.co.in.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, at developer@staryaar.co.in. We reply within 30 days.

Children

StarYaar is for adults. It is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a minor has an account, tell us and we will remove it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is restricted per user at the database level, so one account cannot read another's data even if the app were modified. Birth details in particular are readable only by the account that entered them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
